Our campaign committee are community leaders who support Madison House in creating a better tomorrow for student volunteers and the communities they serve.

ned parrish (col’95)

Committee Chair

Ned serves as Managing Director for Investor Relations and Business Development at Quantitative Investment Management. Previously he was a Managing Director and management committee member at North Sound Capital, an equity long/short hedge fund firm in Greenwich, CT. Before that he was a Vice President in the equities divisions of investment banks Donaldson, Lufkin, Jenrette and Lehman Brothers Holdings. Ned received his BA from the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia in 1995. He has remained active at the University, serving on the College Benefactors Board, the Annual Giving Advisory Board, and the National Committee on University Resources. Ned lives in Ivy with his wife, Sarah Gray (Coll ’97), and their three children.

Marshall Burke (Com’12)

Marshall Burke is a Principal with the private equity firm Apollo Global Management in New York. Prior to joining Apollo in 2015, he worked for three years as a financial analyst at Evercore Partners. During his time at UVA, Marshall served as a Madison House volunteer and Program Director for the Housing Improvement Program. As a Madison House alum, Marshall is focused on helping Madison House to continue its work of strengthening the relationship between UVA and the Charlottesville community.

ROBERT BYRON (LAW‘76)

Robert G. Byron is the Chairman, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Blue Vista Capital Management. Robert sits on Blue Vista’s Management and Investment Committees. Robert has more than 40 years of real estate investment management and transaction experience, having completed over $15 billion in real estate transactions in his career, including over $7.5 billion of transactions since forming Blue Vista. Prior to forming Blue Vista, Robert held the position of Chief Investment Officer for the McShane Corporation, a Chicago-based development and construction company. Prior to that, he led AEW Capital Management’s Investment Banking Group.

Robert has also held senior positions with LaSalle Partners (now JLL), as well as assisted several Chicago-based real estate entrepreneurs in capitalizing and overseeing their real estate operations. Robert began his real estate career at VMS Realty Partners, where he served as general counsel and eventually moved to the transaction side of the business. Prior to that, Robert practiced law in Chicago.

Robert earned a JD and a BA with Honors, from the University of Virginia. He currently serves on the University of Virginia’s Jefferson Scholarship Foundation Board, Architecture School Board, Jefferson Trust Board and the UVA Foundation Board. Robert is also a Governing Trustee of the Urban Land Institute, a member of the Pension Real Estate Association; the Board of Directors of the Posse Foundation; and the Thomas Jefferson (Monticello) Foundation Summit Board.

mary kate cary (Col’85)

Mary Kate Cary is a former White House speechwriter for President George H.W. Bush, and over the years she has written many speeches for him and other national leaders about volunteerism. In time, she became a senior advisor to the Points of Light organization, founded by President Bush, and helped with communications strategies and messaging. Currently, she is teaching as an adjunct professor in the Politics Department at the University of Virginia and serving as a senior fellow at the Miller Center. Her goal is to draw more students, faculty and fellow alumni to the idea of making a difference in the lives of others — and becoming part of something bigger than oneself — through the important work of Madison House.

wayne cozart

Wayne D. Cozart is the executive director of the Jefferson Trust, founding father of modern-day Reunions, and the catalyst behind many of the University of Virginia Alumni Association’s other signature programs. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1970, and then headed to New York to study film at Columbia University. After several years as a movie publicist, he moved to Charlottesville in 1980. During his first years on Grounds, he was a Program advisor to the student-run University Union and met his now wife, Patricia Lampkin, UVA’s vice president and chief student affairs officer. Moving to Alumni Hall in 1984, he created several groundbreaking networks for the Alumni Association including the Young Alumni Council, Young Alumni Reunions, the Second- and Third-Year Class Councils, and helped to launch Black Alumni Weekend. Recently retired, Cozart continues to support the University and organizations like Madison House.

sarah gaines

Sarah Gaines is an Associate Partner with Opus Partners, a retained executive search firm specializing in leadership searches for colleges, universities, academic medical centers, and nonprofits. She founded the firm’s Charlottesville Office in 2019 after having worked in the Philadelphia headquarters from 2007 to 2011. Most recently, she was employed by the Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE) in Charlottesville, where she oversaw fundraising and communications, and consulted for other nonprofits in fundraising and leadership transitions. Sarah’s undergraduate degree is from New York University. She has a master’s in nonprofit administration from Rosemont College, a certificate in fundraising from the University of Pennsylvania, and is an AIRS Certified Diversity Recruiter. Sarah is an active volunteer in the Charlottesville community, including Tandem Friends School, where her two daughters are middle school students and her husband works.

roger george (Col’88, com’92)

Roger George, retired Vice President of Corporate and Legal Affairs, Corporate Secretary and General Counsel of Align Technology, graduated from the University of Virginia in 1988 with a BS in Commerce and in 1992 with a Juris Doctor degree. Along with his Vice President position at Align Technology, he also served as the interim Chief Financial Officer from March to August 2013. Before joining Align Technology, George worked as the Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel of SkyStream Networks and as a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, CA.

SHANDON GUNTER (COL’02)

Shandon is currently a Director with Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Technology Firm, EC Sourcing Group, where is he is responsible for leading Sales & Marketing Operations.  Shandon is also the Co-Founder of Swap & Cop, a joint venture start-up serving key stakeholders across the global sneaker and streetwear resale communities. Prior to these roles, Shandon held sales leadership positions at procurement firms Synertrade, SpendHQ, and Insight Sourcing Group.  

Prior to his procurement experience, Shandon was an Associate Director with CEB (now Gartner), a best-practices advisory firm supporting more than 30,000 executives and over 85% of the Fortune 500. Shandon has led sales & operational initiatives in areas such as cost containment programs, risk assessment studies, influence mapping, accelerating procurement value, reducing outside counsel fees, electronic discovery response strategy, compliance and ethics training, M&A strategy, e-sourcing, auctions, contract management, supplier relationship management, and spend analytics.

Shandon currently serves as Co-Chair for the Madison House Alumni Council and lives with his wife and their three, four-legged children in Atlanta, GA.

erin hatten (Com’05)

Erin Hatten is a co-founder and managing director at Dupont Circle Solutions. DCS is a boutique Salesforce consulting firm founded in 2015 and based in Arlington, Virginia that works with a range of clients including fast growing technology companies, non-profits & foundations, associations, and venture capital & private equity firms. Prior to DCS, Erin was a consultant with Accenture for 12+ years. Erin earned her BS Commerce from UVA in 2005 and, as an undergraduate student, served as a volunteer and program director with Madison House across several Youth Mentoring programs. She resides in Arlington with her husband and two young sons.

maurice jones (Law’92)

With deep experience in both public and private sectors, Maurice A. Jones became LISC’s fourth President & CEO in 2016. He has served as the secretary of commerce for the Commonwealth of Virginia, deputy secretary for HUD, commissioner of Virginia’s Department of Social Services, deputy chief of staff to former Virginia Governor Mark Warner and, during the Clinton administration, director of the CDFI Fund. Maurice was the President & Publisher of the Virginian-Pilot Media Group and a corporate attorney at Hunton & Williams. He is also a Rhodes Scholar and sits on UVA’s Board of Visitors.

jason mills (col’96)

Jason Mills is Chief Operating Officer for UniGroup Worldwide, a global transportation and logistics company located in St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to joining UniGroup in 2009, he served in various marketing, corporate development and operations roles for The Coca-Cola Company, Bayer Corporation and Spectrum Brands. Jason graduated from The University of Virginia with a B.A. in Biology in 1996 and earned an MBA from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2004. During his time at UVA, Jason was involved in Madison House throughout his four years, volunteering at the UVA Medical Center and as a youth soccer coach in Charlottesville. Jason is married to McKay Mills, and they have three boys, Graham, Jack and Drew.

sherri moore (col’85)

Sherri Moore is a professor of Commercial Law at the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce. She practiced law for almost 20 years before she began teaching. She is a 1985 graduate of the College, and she was a Madison House volunteer throughout her four years at UVA. Her passion for UVA students and Madison House resulted in her joining the Board of Directors five years ago, where she currently serves as the Co-Chair.

rick noble

Rick Noble was born, raised and educated in the suburbs of Detroit. A 1970 graduate of the University of Michigan, he migrated south to Charlottesville to pursue a PhD in Economics. Instead he discovered an opportunity that would change his future. It was the nascent idea of what would become known as Madison House, where he became the first full time paid “Director” for 7+ years during MH’s initial development. “Retiring” in 2018, he shares his wisdom, wealth and volunteer time in Asheville, NC. In addition to Madison House, Rick has had a long and successful career founding and running several non-profit organizations. His wife Lynne earned her MA and EdD at UVA and his daughter Sarah received her BA in 1993. His granddaughter Margo may soon continue the family tradition.

bill shenkir

Bill Shenkir served for 38 years as a faculty member of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, where he was the Dean from 1977-1992 and is currently the William Stamps Farish Professor Emeritus. Throughout his extensive career at the University, he has developed a deep relationship with Madison House. After becoming initially connected with us in 1971 because of his interest in the student volunteer service program, he served on the Madison House Board from 1971-1973 — as Comptroller from ‘71-’72 and as Chairman from ‘72-’73. Much of his time on the Board during his tenure was spent in negotiations with UVA, which resulted in Madison House receiving the piece of land at the end of Mad Bowl, funds to construct the building it now occupies, and funds for an endowment fund to sustain operations. He reconnected with Madison House in his retirement from UVA in 2007 when he was invited to a cocktail party for former and current Board members.

Kathryn Stallings

Kathryn serves as an Emergency and Trauma Registered Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey. Previously, Kathryn spent two decades in non-profit development, having served the ACLU, Children’s Hospital Boston, and most recently, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations. As a student, Kathryn’s passion was Madison House – she was a Day Care Program Director and Student Chair of the Board of Directors; as an alumnae, she co-founded and led the Madison House Alumni Council. Kathryn received a BA in Anthropology and French Language & Literature from the University of Virginia, a Masters of Science in Nursing from Columbia University – and was a Jane Addams Fellow at the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy. Kathryn is married to Stan Chiu (COM ’96), and they live in Montclair, New Jersey, with their two children and three dogs.

James Suprenant

James joined the University of Virginia community in 2023 managing research grants for the College of Arts & Sciences. Prior to joining Virginia, James spent his career managing grants for leading universities including Harvard, Yale, and Brown, and leading research hospitals including Mass General and The Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has been an active volunteer through his church, universities, and local community and firmly believes in the mission of Madison House. Throughout his career in grants management, James has seen first-hand the extraordinary impact that charitable funds make possible and is happy to assist Madison House in its campaign. James lives in Connecticut with his wife. As a remote employee, James is thrilled to have the opportunity to develop deeper connections to the University and the Charlottesville community through his work with Madison House.

bo swindell (col’13)

Bo is currently the Chief of Staff at Congruex, a telecommunications roll-up in Boulder, CO. Prior to Congruex, Bo worked as the VP of Business Development at ANDE Corporation after graduating from the University of Virginia in 2013, attending Kellogg School of Management for two years, and consulting at Deloitte in Washington, D.C. for four years. Throughout his educational career at the University, Bo was an active member of the Madison House community — he volunteered as the coach of a local swim team for four years, served as an Athletics Program Director his third and fourth years, and acted as a  student member of the board in his final year at UVA. The impact Madison House has on the Charlottesville community motivated Bo to volunteer as a student, and the outcomes he has seen over the years have inspired him to stay involved to date as a committee member for the Campaign for Madison House.

natalie tallis

Natalie Tallis is a sustainable fashion consultant based in Connecticut.  She has degrees from Johns Hopkins University, Parsons School of Design, and a certificate in sustainable business from UVA’s McIntire Business Institute. Natalie started her career in Washington, DC where she worked in politics and media. She was introduced to Madison House through her daughter Annika’s (Col. ’20) experience working with developmentally challenged children and adults. Her husband Hans (SEAS ’83) is also a Madison House alum. The Tallises were members of the UVA Parents Fund Committee from 2016 – 2020.

doug trout

Doug Trout is the Managing Director at Development Resources, Inc. He maintains an active relationship with The Montpelier Foundation where he has served as a Special Advisor, Interim President, and Executive Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer. He also has an extensive history working with UVA, previously serving as Executive Director of the Miller Center Foundation, Director of the Jefferson Fellowship Program, Associate Director of Development for the Jefferson Scholars Foundation, and the Director of Development for the UVA Center for Politics. Trout graduated from James Madison University in 1993 with a BS in Political Science and from George Mason University in 1997 with a MPA in Public and NonProfit Management.

Leigh-Ann Webb, MD, MBA is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine practicing at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Leigh-Ann completed her BS.Ed in Sports Medicine at UVA in 2005 and her Medical Degree at UVA in 2009. She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago in 2012 where she served as Chief Resident of International Transport and received awards for Humanism and the 2012 Resident of the Year award. After residency, she worked at Wake Forest, New York Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center, University of Maryland, and now UVA. In 2019, she completed her MBA at UVA's Darden School of Business. She founded The Get-Well Company in 2019 as a way to help others use empathy, innovation, and collective action to revolutionize the illness experience. She shares two kids with her husband, Dr. Cameron Webb who is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
